The family owned bakery, run by father and son team Kerr and Nick Little, are already well known in Kirkcudbright for their savoury pies which are available at the monthly Kirkcudbright Farmers’ Market. The new retail outlet will bring the pies to Kirkcudbright on a regular basis, alongside a wide range of traditional bakery products.
The expansion by The Little Bakery is creating 10 new jobs, with several former members of M Corson’s staff already appointed to these positions.
Kerr Little of The Little Bakery said:
“I am delighted to be opening a shop in Kirkcudbright and I’m thrilled to have secured the skills and experience of local bakery staff.
“Corson’s was an outstanding local bakery making products of exceptional quality. While we will not be trying to recreate it, I hope our team can bring back a range of products that will be familiar to the people of Kirkcudbright. We will also be introducing the products that are so popular at farmers’ markets to Kirkcudbright on a permanent basis.
“We had always planned to grow The Little Bakery and when the opportunity arose to trade from the Kirkcudbright shop we jumped at the chance. Anne and Alistair Grierson have been extremely supportive in making available advice and equipment so that we can get up and running quickly and we are very much looking forward to opening.”
The Little Bakery has received business growth advice to plan for the expansion from Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Economic Development service and from DG Food and Drink.
Constituency MSP Finlay Carson welcomed the announcement, commenting:
“I am delighted that The Little Bakery is to open in the former Corson’s shop in Kirkcudbright.
“I initially raised the closure of Corson’s with the First Minister, highlighting the adverse impact on local jobs and high streets. However it was the efforts of the Little and Grierson families, local Council and DG Food and Drink that brought about this deal. I am delighted to have played a role in facilitating the discussions which have resulted in such a positive outcome.
“As well as welcoming the 10 new jobs, I personally look forward to enjoying the Little’s savoury pies!”
