A new 10-day event dedicated to showcasing the best food, drink and hospitality in Dundee will take place this spring, encouraging diners to get out and support local.
Dundee Eat Week will give the public the chance to enjoy a range of quality dishes and produce at a reduced price with top deals and discounts available from Friday March 29 to Sunday April 7, 2024.
The initiative is designed to encourage individuals and groups to try new places and cuisine, all while being able to take advantage of specific affordable deals that range from £5 to £30. Venues, which can include restaurants, bakeries, cafes, butchers, pubs, takeaways and more, will offer fixed price options and will create bespoke menus especially for the celebration.
More than 22 businesses have signed up to take part already, with organisers M.ad Agency, a Dundee-based marketing firm, expecting around 40 venues to be listed by the launch date.
This week differs from Dundee Restaurant Week, which took place last June and was also organised by M.ad Agency, as it will showcase the diverse food and drink offering Dundee boasts. Not only will restaurants be a key focus of the week, but local butchers, cheesemongers, bakers, fishmongers and more are encouraged to get involved, too.
Dundee Eat Week will shine a light on a range of cuisine ranging from Scottish to Mexican, American, Australian, British and Greek. Venues that have already confirmed their participation include The Tayberry, Gallery 48, The Flame Tree Café, The Giddy Goose, Andreou’s Dundee and Mas Mexican. One of the latest businesses to sign up is new speciality shop, Höfn, on Bank Street.
To get access to the deals, diners need to sign up for a free Dundee Eat Week pass by visiting eat-week.co.uk.
Some deals available include £15 for three tapas plates at Gallery 48, burger, fries and a beer flight for £15 at St Andrews Brewing Company, a two-course lunch at £18 and Café Kitchen within Tayview Hotel and a beer and spice offer at £15.95 per person, too.
Local produce that will feature on some menus includes Scott Brothers Butches, Sacred Grounds Coffee Company, Newport Bakery, Yorkes of Dundee, David Lowrie Fish Merchants, The Cheesery and 71 Brewing to name a few.
Alice Christison, director of M.ad Agency, said: “Whether you're looking for a romantic dinner for two, a family-friendly brunch or a quality bite to eat on-the-go for lunch, you'll find it all during Dundee Eat Week.
“This event is really all about encouraging everyone to explore the city’s culinary scene while discovering new places and revisiting old favourites. With a wide range of businesses and offers available there is something for everyone and we are eager to see as many people out and about tucking into the brilliant offers and menus that will be available.”
The project has been supported by the Regional Food Fund which is delivered by the Scottish Food & Drink Partnership with funding from the Scottish Government.
Organisers are also working with Zero Waste Scotland and Eat and Drink Dundee to encourage businesses to adopt sustainable practices, reduce their food waste and offer sustainable menu advice.
Price points for venues can vary from £5, £10, £15, £20, £25 and £30 and will be available throughout the 10-day event. Diners are advised to check the individual venue’s offers online as deals with vary from business to business.
