A fresh initiative has been launched to find the people needed to power Scotland’s thriving food and drink industry.

The newly released toolkit – called Find Your Future In Food & Drink - provides a comprehensive resource for employers, educators, and jobseekers alike, showcasing the sector's diverse and rewarding career paths.

Central to the toolkit is a focus on the industry's substantial growth potential and its pivotal role in Scotland's sustainable development. With roles spanning scientific research to creative marketing, it aims to dispel myths and highlight the breadth of opportunities available.

A short, inspiring video accompanying the toolkit brings these key messages to life, showcasing the passion and dedication of people working across the industry.

Scotland's food and drink industry is a powerhouse, turning over £16billion with exports valued at £7.6billion. It’s the biggest manufacturing employer in Scotland, boasting around 17,500 registered businesses – a number that has grown by nearly 20% in the last five years. While the industry is dominated by smaller businesses, larger companies employ a significant portion of the workforce.

Employers can leverage the toolkit to enhance their recruitment strategies and foster a talented workforce. Educators can incorporate its insights into curriculum development, inspiring young people to explore the industry's potential. The resource also underscores the sector’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its contribution to Scotland's economy.

"Scotland’s food and drink industry is a vibrant and dynamic sector with a wealth of opportunities," said Moira Stalker, skills manager at Food & Drink Federation Scotland.

"This toolkit is a valuable asset in showcasing the industry's appeal and attracting the talent needed to drive its continued success."

The toolkit features a comprehensive jobs map, inspiring success stories, and practical guidance for those considering a career in the sector. By highlighting the industry's positive impact on both individuals and the wider community, the toolkit seeks to inspire and empower the next generation of food and drink professionals.
