Nakey Bakey
Founded in her home kitchen, Nakey Bakey is the brainchild of entrepreneur Megan Murrie, who created her range of allergen, nut and sugar-free granola after failing to find anything similar on the market. What started as a personal solution has grown into a thriving business, which now operates from a dedicated allergen-free production facility in Glenrothes, Fife, where everything is made with care, love and passion.
Here, we speak to Megan about her business journey, discovering why sourcing local ingredients is so important to her product’s final flavour.
Scottish Food & Drink September 2026
Nakey Bakey started from your own experience with a nut allergy and endometriosis. Can you tell us how this has influenced the way you operate the business?
Nakey Bakey started from my own experience of living with endometriosis and having a nut allergy. I struggled to find products that were safe to eat, healthy and still tasted great, so I decided to create my own. That experience has stayed at the heart of the business. Being free from the major allergens and having no added sugar are not just claims we put on our packaging. They are things I really care about because I know how important it is to be able to trust what you are eating. It has also shaped how we produce our products, with a dedicated allergen-free production facility and a lot of care around our ingredients, suppliers and processes.
The business is very values-driven for me and I want that to remain at the heart of Nakey Bakey as we grow. I want to create food that is healthy but also tastes great, while helping people who struggle to find products they can feel confident eating, just as I did.
For this year's theme, Every Bite Tells a Story, what story do you hope people take away from Nakey Bakey?
I hope people take away the story that something can start from a personal problem and grow into something much bigger. Nakey Bakey started because I couldn’t find the products I wanted to eat myself. What started from a personal need has grown into something I never imagined when I first started Nakey Bakey and it has been amazing to see how far it has come.
I want people to see that you don’t need to have everything figured out at the beginning. You can start with something that matters to you and build from there. Sometimes you just have to take the next step and believe in what you’re building.
What makes Nakey Bakey distinctively Scottish?
How important are locally-sourced ingredients and provenance to your products?
It is really important to us to know where our ingredients come from and to have confidence in the quality of what goes into our products. We work closely with our suppliers and consider provenance, quality and consistency when sourcing our ingredients. Where we can source ingredients locally and from Scottish suppliers, we will and this is something we continue to review as we grow. For us, it is about making sure the ingredients we use are right for our products while supporting suppliers closer to home wherever possible.
For customers with allergies trust is important. How do you build that confidence?
For me, it starts with understanding the customer because I have a nut allergy myself. I know what it feels like to read every label and question whether something is safe to eat. We have built Nakey Bakey around making that experience easier, with all of our products free from the major allergens and made in a dedicated allergen-free facility. We are clear and transparent about what goes into our products and take a lot of care to make sure customers can trust Nakey Bakey and feel confident choosing our products.
Looking ahead, what do you hope is the next chapter in Nakey Bakey’s story?
I want the next chapter to be about taking Nakey Bakey to the next level while staying true to why I started it in the first place. I want to continue growing the brand, developing new healthy and nutritious products and getting them into the hands of more people. My mission has always been to create food that is safe, healthy and tastes good, particularly for people who struggle with allergens or finding products that meet their dietary needs. I know how difficult that can be from my own experience and being able to help others through something I created is what makes the journey so meaningful to me. I’m excited to see how far we can take Nakey Bakey.
