This Scottish Food & Drink September we can all support our local food heroes and heroines and celebrate the best quality locally sourced produce across the length and breadth of the country, from Edinburgh’s vibrant waterfront to the Argyll coast, the Isle of Skye, the Cairngorms National Park, and the far north Scottish Highlands.

Here’s our pick of some of the best mouthwatering food and drink experiences and restaurants around Scotland as part of Scottish Food & Drink September, where 'Every Bite Tells a Story.’

The Pierhouse Hotel & Seafood Restaurant, Port Appin, Argyll

Make a splash with a seafood odyssey on the Argyll coast. Oban’s very own ‘Oyster Lady’, Judith Vajk or her son, Angus ‘Oyster Laddie’, offer unique guided oyster tours on the shores of Loch Creran.

At the nearby Pierhouse Hotel & Seafood Restaurant at Port Appin, Judith’s oysters are a permanent fixture on the menu. Head chef Michael Leathley prides himself on working with the region’s best local producers and suppliers, including the Caledonian Oyster Company.

The Pierhouse is tucked away on the shores of Loch Linnhe, offering breathtaking views to the islands of Lismore and Mull. The restaurant has three AA silver stars, two AA rosettes and is featured in the Michelin Guide for Great Britain and Ireland 2026.

The Three Chimneys at Talisker, Carbost, Isle of Skye

Two of Skye’s world-class food and drink icons, The Three Chimneys and Skye’s oldest distillery, Talisker, have joined forces to create ‘The Three Chimneys at Talisker’ experience at the distillery on the shores of Loch Harport.

Inspiration for the menus is taken from Talisker Distillery’s unique location on the Minginish peninsula and an air that is filled with the salt and spray of the sea.

Led by head chef of The Three Chimneys, Paul Green and his team, dishes complement the maritime character of Talisker with its notes of smoke, spice, peat, salt and pepper.

The Three Chimneys at Talisker has already earned its place in the Michelin Guide for Great Britain and Ireland, as well as leading the rise of the gastro-distillery on the island.

Links House, Golf Road, Dornoch, Sutherland

Located just one hour north of Inverness, Links House is the UK’s most northerly five-star luxury hotel destination with a Michelin Key and was recently crowned one of the top 50 boutique hotels in the country.

Links House is home to celebrated fine dining restaurant, MARA, which has two AA rosettes for culinary excellence and takes its named from the Scottish Gaelic word for ‘the Sea.’  

Head chef, Theo Creton’s menu showcases the finest seasonal ingredients and Highland traditions. September menu highlights include the locally-caught Portmahomack lobster, as well as venison sourced from local supplier, Seafield Game.

Barry Fish, 62 Shore, Leith, Edinburgh

One of Scotland's top Michelin-acclaimed chefs, Barry Bryson, opened the doors to his first independent fish restaurant in 2025. Since then, he has quickly established Barry Fish as one of the city’s most popular dining venues for local diners and visitors by showcasing the best fish and seafood from Scotland.

Barry Fish has also earned its place on The Good Food Guide’s UK-wide list of ‘100 Best Local Restaurants 2026’.

Diners can enjoy views directly into the open-plan working kitchen from the pass, as well as out over the Water of Leith from the comfort of the restaurant.

Firm favourites on the menu also include shelled half lobster with smoked fish agnolotti, brown butter sauce and pickled fennel; and Barry fish pastrami with aioli, capers and dried grapes.

Suppliers to Barry Fish include Welch Fishmonger at Newhaven in Edinburgh, and Shaws Fine Meats in the Scottish Borders.

The Big Cheese, 27 Broughton Street, Edinburgh

A new independent cheese store has opened its doors to customers on Edinburgh’s Broughton Street.

The Big Cheese now stocks over 50 carefully selected varieties of fine cheese from around Scotland, the rest of the UK and continental Europe.

Around half of the cheeses at The Big Cheese are not currently available to buy from any of Edinburgh's other speciality cheese shops.

Scottish varieties in The Big Cheese range include Corra Linn, and 18-month matured cheese and Elrick Log from Errington Dairy; as well as Blue Murder from Highland Fine Cheeses.

Ongoing tasting events will also be staged at the new Broughton Street store to help enhance the customer experience and introduce Edinburgh’s cheese lovers to new and unique varieties.
