Farm Shop & Cheese Counter
Errington’s farm shop is a treasure trove of local produce, stocked with chutneys, oatcakes, and whey-fed pork from the farm’s own butchery. At its heart is a cheese counter piled high with their award-winning farmhouse cheeses, made entirely from milk produced on the farm, alongside seasonal guest varieties. With a commitment to sustainability, the farm uses renewable energy, feeds whey from the cheese-making process to its pigs, and avoids artificial fertilisers and pesticides to ensure everything is as kind to the environment as it is to the table. With ample parking, dog-friendly areas, and full accessibility, the shop is a practical and inviting destination for festive shopping.
Chef Ed Murray’s Vision for Food
Ed’s menus embody the farm’s values of sustainability and connection to the land. “For me, food is about connections—between the people sharing it and the land and animals that make it possible,” he explains. “Working with the Errington family, whose cheeses are among Scotland’s finest, gives us the foundation to create simple, honest dishes that reflect the farm and its incredible produce.”
Pork and cheese take centre stage on the menu, inspired by the Barn’s connection to the farm and its roadside location. Drawing from Les Relais Routiers, the French truck stop bistros, Ed has crafted a dining experience that celebrates the farm’s produce. “Whether you’re stopping for a bowl of soup on your way to visit family or sitting down with friends to share a feast, the focus is always on great food and its story,” he adds.
Selina Cairns, co-owner of Errington’s Barn, shares the vision behind this family-run destination: “We want the Barn to be a place where people feel connected—to the land, to the food, and to each other. Whether you’re here for a coffee, a full meal, or to stock up at the farm shop, there’s something for everyone.”
Set within the family’s farm in the Southern Uplands of Scotland, Errington’s Barn opened in 2024 as part of a broader mission to share their passion for sustainable farming, cheesemaking, and local food. The Barn is a true family affair: Andrew Cairns, Selina’s husband, works alongside her to run the business, while Andrew’s mum, Caroline, bakes the cakes, and his sister, Angela, is one of the talented cheesemakers.
The farm’s legacy dates back to 1985, when Selina’s father, Humphrey Errington, began producing award-winning farmhouse cheeses, including the pioneering Lanark Blue and Corra Linn cheddar. Today, Errington Cheese remains at the heart of the farm, with cheeses like Blackmount goat’s cheese—awarded ‘Super Gold’ at the World Cheese Awards—celebrated by top chefs and food lovers across the UK.
Selina and Andrew hope that visitors to Errington’s Barn will feel a deeper connection to the land and the food it provides. “Everything we do here—from the café to the farm shop and our cheeses—reflects the values of our family and the farm,” Selina adds. “It’s about creating an experience that goes beyond the plate, inviting people to become part of the story of this special place.”
Errington’s Barn is open daily from 10am to 4pm. For more information, visit www.erringtonsbarn.co.uk or follow @erringtonsbarn on social media.
