Expressions of Interest Sought for Direct Transatlantic Shipping Service
Peel Ports is inviting Scottish exporters to express their interest and indicate likely volume of cargo for a potential new direct service between Greenock and the US East Coast.
In partnership with the Peel Ports Clydeport team, Scotland Food & Drink recently convened a roundtable in Glasgow to explore the export challenges facing Scottish supply chains, as well as the opportunities to support future growth in international markets.
A key area of discussion was the potential development of a direct transatlantic shipping service from the Port of Greenock to the United States. By consolidating cargo volumes from Scottish food and drink exporters, there is an opportunity to establish a dedicated service that would provide faster, more efficient access to this strategically important market.
While the viability of a direct service is being assessed, a newly launched CMA CGM service between Cork and New York presents an attractive interim solution. This could be supported by a feeder service linking Greenock and Cork, enabling Scottish exporters to benefit from improved access to the US market in the near term.
To progress discussions with shipping lines regarding the feeder service, an indication of potential cargo volumes is required. At this stage, no firm commitment is being sought. Instead, Peel Ports is inviting members to express their interest and indicate their likely volume of cargo for this proposed routing option, while a direct Greenock–US service continues to be explored.
Any information provided will be treated in strict confidence by the port operator and will be used solely to inform discussions with shipping lines and assess the commercial viability of the service.
