Monday 2 November 2026 marked an exciting new chapter for Kirkwood – Real Farm in Lockerbie, South Scotland as farmer Anthony Steel and his team officially launched mmm’bgaa beef alongside ex-Masterchef judge John Torode MBE, building on the remarkable success of their award-winning shh’annu lamb.

After more than two decades of research, experimentation and an unwavering commitment to producing exceptionally delicious and tender meat, Anthony Steel and the team at Kirkwood – Real Farm welcomed chefs, members of the press, Members of Parliament, farmers and local buyers to Kirkwood for a special launch celebration.

The introduction of mmm’bgaa beef follows the success of shh’annu lamb, launched in 2021 after years of careful breeding and refinement.

In 2020, samples were sent to 21 Michelin-starred chefs, 20 described the lamb as delicious, with two declaring it the best they had ever tasted. Since then, demand has been exceptional, it has been sold to 25 Michelin-starred restaurants, with most loins selling out before the season even begins each year.

Adding to its impressive credentials, shh’annu lamb has twice received the prestigious three-stars at the Great Taste Awards, recognition reserved for products of exceptional quality.

Now, Kirkwood – Real Farm is bringing the same philosophy, patience and dedication to mmm'bgaa beef.

A Celebration of Exceptional Scottish Farming and Food

Set against the backdrop of a glorious, sunny Autumn day, guests arrived at Kirkwood House to a warm welcome and a glass of English sparkling wine.

Anthony Steel opened the proceedings by welcoming guests and sharing the story behind Kirkwood – Real Farm. He spoke passionately about the challenges facing British farming, the importance of responsible animal husbandry and the years of work that have gone into understanding what makes meat truly delicious.

At the heart of his philosophy is a simple belief: exceptional meat begins long before it reaches the plate.

Guests were then given a short guided tour of the farm to see some sheep, pigs and cattle, offering a first-hand insight into the care that Anthony and the Kirkwood team give their animals. The tour highlighted the farm's commitment to organic and regenerative practices, year-round outdoor rearing and working with nature.

Following the tour, guests returned for the eagerly anticipated tasting experience.

Chef John Torode MBE prepared and barbequed the newly launched mmm’bgaa beef, giving guests the opportunity to discover the distinctive flavour and tenderness.

Adding to the occasion, Michelin-starred chef Hrishikesh Desai of Farlam Hall, in Cumbria created and served a spectacular Beef Wellington, showcasing the quality and versatility of Kirkwood's beef.

The event brought together farming, food and hospitality in a celebration of the care, time and expertise required to produce exceptional Scottish meat.
