Slow Sauce has picked up a 3-star Great Taste Award, the highest accolade awarded by Guild of Fine Food.
Founded on a simple idea; what happens when you take the traditions and techniques behind Japanese miso and shoyu and root them in the local ingredients and landscape, Slow Sauce co-founders Jono and Robin make small batch miso and shoyu from its brewery in the hills of Aberdeenshire, using Scottish organic gluten-free oats and British organic peas, fermented and slowly aged in oak barrels.

The Oat Miso is rich, savoury, and gently sweet – brilliant stirred through sauces and dressings, glazed onto vegetables, spread on toast or even added to porridge. The Oat Shoyu takes those same local ingredients and transforms them into a complex, full-bodied seasoning with deep umami and a long savoury finish. Shoyu is the traditional Japanese term for soy sauce, typically made from fermented soybeans and wheat.

Talking about the business's recent success at the Great Taste Awards, Robin Sherriff, co-founder of Slow Sauce explains: "For us, this award is a fantastic bit of recognition for what we’re trying to do, making something genuinely Scottish while remaining deeply respectful of the traditions we’ve learned from. No shortcuts. Just well-grown ingredients, barrels, microbes, time and care."

Alongside 3-stars, Slow Sauces also picked up 2-star and 1-star awards:

3-star Great Taste Award

  • Oat Shoyu
  • Sheldrake Smoky Oat Shoyu

2-star Great Taste Award

  • Pea Miso

1-star Great Taste Award
