Whether a startup with just five employees or a well-established organisation with staff working up and down the country, the ability to streamline processes, save time and maintain consistency across teams is essential for all businesses – especially when it comes to training.
Working with clients across a range of sectors, including hospitality and food and drink manufacturing, Scotland Food & Drink Affiliate Member Tayl provide an all-in-one training platform that makes it easy to manage staff onboarding and upskilling, as well as essential compliance courses.

“We provide an online learning management system, where organisations can access and manage pre-made courses, many of which are often deemed as essential training for compliance,” explained Blair Lundie, Engagement Manager at Tayl. “We also provide the tools for businesses to create their own bespoke training, which we can then combine with compliance courses to create staff development plans.
“In a nutshell, Tayl is somewhere businesses can access, create and manage online learning material, keeping everything easily accessible in one place.”
Between the everyday demands, stresses and strains of running a business, training may not always sit high on the priority list for some organisations – but for food and drink producers who must comply with regulations around allergens awareness and food hygiene, for example, education is not just ‘good to have’ but essential.

Blair continued: “For some of the smaller teams we work with, there may only be 10 employees total, and for them in particular, training can quite often slip through the net because it can feel quite expensive.
“However, it can be easy to overlook the liability and risk that comes with not completing proper training. For example, let's say someone was loading up a van or a truck with deliveries, and they lifted the boxes incorrectly and hurt their back. If that employee then put in a claim, and there's no record of them receiving training on how to safely lift and load a van, it would leave the business in a pretty tight spot. Training provides that peace of mind.
“Bigger organisations will be very aware of the legal liabilities, so for them, working with us is more about finding a timely and cost-efficient way to manage training.
“What’s more, in-house learning also has a lot to do with a company’s people and culture strategy. How well equipped are people to do their job? Do they know what our company values are? Do they know our processes? Can they access our bespoke information easily? Answering all these questions feeds into staff retention and recruitment, efficiency, and a lot of other areas. So, it’s safe to say our system can do quite a lot for people.”

Tayl’s online courses are compatible with PC, Mac, iOS and Android devices, allowing team leaders to assign training to staff, set due dates, and also edit the courses as necessary. Once employees complete their training, course certificates can be downloaded or saved to the platform.
Blair added: “Training ties in with BRC and SALSA audits for food and drink businesses, too. Having everything available in one place means that, if a business does get audited, the process is a lot easier – they can access training certificates with just a few clicks.”
