Thomas Thomson: Berry Impactful Small Fruit, Big Change

Based in Blairgowrie, Thomas Thomson is a family run business with a proud heritage of growing a variety of premium soft fruits.

With roots stretching back to the late 1800s, the farm's history is intertwined with the region’s textile industry. It began when Mill Manager, Thomas Thomson, bought a number of local mills, laying the foundation for what would become a thriving enterprise. As the textile trade began to decline, the business gradually turned its focus to growing soft fruits - most notably raspberries - marking the beginning of a legacy that continues to grow today.

Thomas Thomson has been growing raspberries for over 100 years and has produced a variety of different soft fruits in the last 50 years. Currently, the farm grows cherries and blueberries.

In 2022, the farm stopped commercial production of its blueberry crop and focussed solely on its cherry trees. Since then, Thomas Thomson has opened its blueberry fields to various local community groups and charities, allowing them to run ‘Pick Your Own’ Blueberry sessions where visitors can enjoy delicious fresh blueberries, while also giving back to the community, as every penny raised is donated to local causes.

Since the sessions began, the farm has raised over £50,000 for over 60 different local community groups and charities. The sessions will be returning for a fourth year on 29 of August, running every day from 9 AM to 6 PM.

Thomas Thomson farm is a fantastic example of the diversity of Scotland’s berry industry, and how berries can be used as a force for good by giving back to the local community. You can find out more about the ‘Pick Your Own’ Sessions here.
