Applications have opened for the Food and Drink Processing Scheme Scotland as part of a £9 million investment package.

This investment offers match-funded capital grants to businesses backing projects to increase productivity, improve efficiency, and invest in new equipment and technology.

Rural Affairs Secretary Mairi Gougeon said: “Scotland’s food and drink industry is an incredible success story, with products prized both internationally and at home. With a turnover of around £19 billion, over 17,000 businesses and employing around 115,000 people – many in rural and island communities – it is a powerhouse of our economy.

“These awards will provide grants of up to £400,000 to help businesses improve, expand and attract further investment. It will boost growth within the food and drink processing sector and set it on a sustainable, secure footing for the future.”

Scotland Food & Drink, who lead Scotland’s national food and drink industry strategy, “Sustaining Scotland, Supplying the World”, will administer the scheme and have been a key partner in its development.

Iain Baxter, Chief Executive, Scotland Food & Drink said: “Scotland Food & Drink is proud to be administering the FDPSS fund on behalf of the Scottish Government. Our world-renowned food and drink industry is closely linked to Scotland’s prosperity, sense of place, heritage, and long history of innovation – and it’s not just vital for our economy, but our communities, where local businesses and producers have the ambition to grow.

“That’s why investment in production, processing and manufacturing is so vital. It’s an investment in our future.”
