The Scottish Food Commission, the new executive non-departmental public body established to provide oversight over provisions made in the Good Food Nation (Scotland) Act 2022, welcomes Jayne as inaugural Chief Executive. Jayne will take up the post in January 2026.
She brings decades of experience in the UK public sector and has built her reputation by driving the provision of better and more sustainable food, through transformation and pioneering equitable, sustainable strategies which benefit all.
She also chairs the Public Sector Catering Alliance on a voluntary basis, working with the spectrum of public sector organisations, who collectively serve 2.6 billion meals annually. Jayne’s new role at the Scottish Food Commission comes at a time of significant change and opportunity, and the commissioners are looking forward to working with her.
It’s a reality that despite the natural abundance of Scotland’s land and seas, not everyone eats well, with reliable access to safe, nutritious and affordable food. Diet-related illnesses consume a growing part of NHS resources.
Scottish agriculture’s carbon emissions are second only to the transport sector and biodiversity loss in recent decades, in part due to food production methods, has been significant. The Good Food Nation (Scotland) Act 2022, aims to ensure that our country takes a lead in all these areas, benefitting those who eat our food, those who produce it, and the environment which supports its production.
Jayne will lead the Commission in building relationships with Scottish Ministers, local authorities and health boards to assist in the development of their Good Food Nation Plans.
