The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack in South Queensbury has hosted a night of celebration for leading Fish & Chip businesses all over the country. The event, KFE On a Mission, is on target to raise more than £20k for the Fisherman's Mission, KFE’s adopted charity.

Looking after the health and well-being of fishermen for over 140 years, The Fishermen’s Mission provides practical, financial and emotional support, including a 24/7 emergency service to assist with accidents or illness at sea.

The culmination of a three day event, KFE on a Mission sees ten of the nations finest fish & chip operators offer hands on training sessions to other fish & chip businesses looking to boost their industry skills. These businesses then make a donation to the Misson in return for the training, as well a buying tickets to the dinner & charity auction which takes place as a final thank you to all involved.

Leading fish & chip suppliers, including Middleton Foods, Smales, Stokes Sauces, Drywite, and Swift Order, donated product prizes for the auction, whilst champagne and a Fortnum & Mason hamper were raffled off.

This years KFE On a Mission” event had added significance as 2026 marks organiser KFE's 30 year anniversary as a leading supplier of premier frying equipment. It’s also the first year since the covid pandemic that the event has been staged again.

Said Bryan Coghill from The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack: “What a great night we all had here in South Queensferry. It’s been an honour for us to host this dinner & party. We are delighted to say that everybody very much enjoyed themselves. We had quite a few operators came up from England to our beautiful part of Scotland. They have loved it here, and it’s been a great opportunity for us to show off our restaurant which has only been open for nine months.”

“As well as being chosen to host this event, we have made quite an impression as we secured Runner-Up in the Best Newcomer award at the National Fish & Chip Awards, held last month in London,” added Bryan.

Bryan went on to say that the dinner had also enabled him to tell these leading operators about his own fundraising plans for his restaurant’s adopted charity, Radio Forth’s Cash for Kids.

Looking ahead to National Fish & Chip Day, Friday 5th of June, Bryan and his son Jack plan to take part in an ambitious north, south, east and west “Flying Fish Tour of Scotland”, which will see them prepare fish & chips as fast as they can at other fish & chip businesses throughout the country.

Starting off in Edinburgh, they’ll head north to Shetland, then over to the West of Scotland, and down to Dumfries & Galloway. They will then travel back to The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack in South Queensferry for a celebration with staff, supporters, and customers. Lots of special offers and happenings will take place at the restaurant all day.

The duo will ask for sponsorship donations through the Forth One Cash for Kids portal, which will include details of their challenge soon. The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack is the current 2025/26 Forth One Restaurant of the Year.

“Giving back is important to us, and we’ve been supporting Cash for Kids since we opened, donating over £2.5k before Christmas,” said Bryan Coghill. “We thought that National Fish & Chip Day would be the ideal day to do something ambitious, to grab the headlines, as that is the National Day when we all celebrate what has become our favourite dish.”

“Our friends in the industry have been extremely supportive of this idea, and we appreciate any help they are able to give us, whether it’s donating something towards the travel costs, or donating fish, potatoes or other ingredients to the various businesses at which we’ll be frying.”

“It’s an ambitious challenge for sure, travelling to all four corners of the country as fast as we can. It will be well worth it though!” finished Bryan.

Commenting on the KFE On a Mission Dinner, Tanya Henderson, Managing Director at KFE, said: “Our heartfelt thanks go to the Coghill family and all their team at The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack. They laid on a top class night of food and hospitality which was befitting of an event which is very special to us, held in our company’s 30th anniversary year.”

“They are yet another superior fish & chip operator keeping standards high and ensuring that fish & chips remains the nation’s favourite. We wish Jack and Bryan well in their own fundraising adventures on National Fish & Chip Day.”
