The Fine Cheesemakers of Scotland (FCMS) is celebrating a major moment for Scottish artisan cheese, as two Scottish dairies - Errington Cheese and St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company - achieved outstanding results at the 2025 World Cheese Awards in Bern, Switzerland, taking home four medals from a record-breaking 5,200 entries.

These wins ensured Scotland was represented at the highest levels of the competition, reinforcing the nation’s growing reputation for exceptional small-scale cheesemaking.

Errington Cheese Wins Super Gold and Silver

Lanarkshire-based Errington Cheese, a family-run dairy led by Selina Cairns, achieved one of Scotland’s most significant international cheese results this year with a Super Gold for Corra Linn alongside a Silver medal for their Elrick Log.

The Super Gold places Corra Linn among a select group of cheeses judged to be the very best in the world. Handmade using raw sheep’s milk, it impressed judges with its depth, complexity and unmistakable sense of place.

St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company Takes Double Bronze

Fife’s St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company, a proud member of FCMS, also celebrated international recognition with two Bronze medals for their St Andrews Farmhouse Cheddar and Cheshire-style crumbly Anster.

The Stewart family are Fife’s only producers of traditional farmhouse cheese, led by Jane Stewart, crafting every batch entirely by hand using raw milk from their own herd and traditional rennet.

Both cheeses were judged within territorial-style classes, which regularly attract some of the highest numbers of entries globally. Achieving a medal in these categories is a fantastic result in one of the competition’s most competitive fields.

A Celebration of Scotland’s Craft, Character and Diversity

These four medals showcase the breadth of Scotland’s artisan cheese sector - from raw ewe and goat’s milk cheeses in Lanarkshire to traditional farmhouse territorial cheeses in Fife.

Together, the two dairies represent the very best of Scottish artisan cheesemaking - each excelling in their own distinct raw-milk traditions, from world-class territorial styles to more modern, expressive interpretations.

Errington’s Super Gold places Corra Linn among the world’s finest cheeses, while St Andrews’ success in competitive territorial classes underscores the strength, character and consistent quality of Scotland’s farmhouse cheesemaking on the international stage.
