Plans for the inaugural Global Agritourism Conference, set to take place this year in Aberdeen, Scotland, are gathering pace.

The conference is expected to attract 1000 delegates from every corner of the globe to Scotland, from 23rd – 25th June 2026. The Global Agritourism Conference is the first to be held following the formation of a Global Agritourism Network in 2023, and will set a bench mark for future global events. Scottish Agritourism, the sector body representing Scotland’s agritourism sector, was selected to host the inaugural global conference following an extensive bidding process and strong competition from several other countries.

The three-day conference programme includes a full day of farm tours, visiting outstanding examples of agritourism around Aberdeenshire, Angus and Morayshire which will culminate in a civic reception welcoming delegates to Scotland. This is followed by two days of key note and breakout sessions at the P&J Live conference venue in Aberdeen. Delegates also have the opportunity to participate in extended tours before and after the conference, taking in agritourism in every corner of Scotland. The Scottish Government has committed £150k to the conference to assist in showcasing Scotland’s food and drink and agritourism offering to the world.

50 funded conference tickets have been awarded in the form of international scholarship places. Global Agritourism Conference scholars will undertake a programme of personal development, peer support and international knowledge exchange.

64 speakers will present in the breakout programme, which will deliver on 6 themes covering agritourism policy, data from around the globe, consumer trends in agritourism, the role of agritourism in sustaining family farms and rural communities, agritourism innovation and agritourism as the sales arm of agriculture.

Speaking at Scotland’s Royal Highland Show, Mairi Gougeon MSP, Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Land Reform and the Islands, praised Sector Lead, Caroline Millar, citing the excellent reputation of Scotland’s agritourism network as critical to Scotland’s winning bid. Ms Gougeon, said: “One of our main strengths is the network of agritourism and farm retail businesses across Scotland and the quality and diversity of their offering.

Agritourism is a cornerstone of our rural community and a real showcase of our farms, food, landscapes and our wider hospitality. It is great to see that Scotland is at the heart of international agritourism development via the Global Agritourism Network, and the wider Scottish economy will continue to benefit extensively from knowledge exchange through these connections.”

Scottish Agritourism Sector Lead, Caroline Millar, said: “The Global Agritourism Conference in Scotland represents knowledge transfer at an international scale. We have a great deal to learn from agritourism experts and leaders from the global community visiting Scotland and we have much to offer in exchange as we welcome over 1000 people, to visit Scottish Agritourism businesses throughout the length and breadth of the country. We know many people are planning on not only attending but staying on for an extended holiday all of which will contribute to the economic impact of this global conference.

Scottish Agritourism, working with the delivery team of Abbey Conferences and the P&J Live, has an exciting and busy time ahead but one which we are looking forward to.”
